E-commerce giant Amazon India on Tuesday said that it has added four different Indian languages into its platform, a movement that will help expand access to online shopping to 200-300 million customers.
The accession of four languages — — Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu — comes ahead of the festive period that accounts for a significant chunk of e-commerce sales in the nation.
Previously, shoppers Amazon India could search and purchase goods in Hindi and English.
“With this launch, Amazon.in customers can now discover wonderful deals and discounts, read detailed product info manage their account info, place and pay for their orders such as bill payments, recharges, cash transfers, monitor their orders and view order history from the language of their preference,” Amazon India Director, Client Experience and Marketing, Kishore Thota said.
He also added that Amazon India clients can select their favorite language in a couple straightforward measures across Android along with iOS programs, desktop and mobile websites.
Amazon.in had launched Hindi shopping expertise at 2018.
Smaller rival Snapdeal on Monday announced that its app is now available in eight languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi and Marathi, in addition to English.
Thota said hundreds of thousands of Amazon clients from tier I, II and III cities around Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh have switched to the Hindi shopping experience.
Thota reported the company has worked with expert linguists to develop a precise and comprehensible experience in every one of the languages around the stage.
The group has selected commonly used terms over perfectly interpreted words to make the shopping experience authentic, easily comprehensible and seamless for customers,” he added.
“we’ve been innovating to enlarge the e-commerce opportunity to both customers and companies in the fields of vernacular, video and voice enabled projects for the previous few years,” he explained.
Back in March this year, Alexa was introduced to the Amazon shopping app for Android apparatus to help users shop using voice commands.
Last year, Amazon also established an automatic messaging helper in Hindi, while customer support is available in five languages, such as English, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil.
